Well the season is almost half way done, and I am proud to say that the Brownsville North community has been influential in helping the season run smoothly. When I took over as President, there were some bumps along the road. I became aware of obligations that the League failed to meet with the IRS, such as filing a tax return since the year of 2009. As a result, the continuation of our league was endangered. Amid many rumors and innuendos, the Board and I have been working through the issues and presented a summary of our efforts to the IRS and to Corporation and are currently waiting for a response from the IRS. As a result of these efforts, we were able to sustain our League. The Board and I felt propelled to ensure that Brownsville North’s legacy would be available for your children’s children and so forth. Thank you for having faith and allowing us the opportunity to continue as a League by returning and not allowing the nay-sayers to permeate their influence on our existence.

I am very proud of the family atmosphere that has prevailed in the park. Everyone has been instrumental in keeping our park clean. Volunteers are coming forth to help us. Umpires have been more receptive and that has given us a bit of free time so we could have additional events for our girls, such as the Easter egg hunt we hosted for Rookies and Peewee. Thanks to all the persons who donated items for this event! We have other events on the back burner and we will inform you of them as they come up.

At Opening Ceremonies, I invited community members to ponder the idea of joining our Board. The time is here upon us! We are accepting applications for the board elections to be held mid-May. The applications will be available at the back office and the due date will be relayed to you. Once all applications have been processed, we will advise you, so that you can inform individuals of your intent. Every parent of a child playing at Brownsville North will be allowed to vote.

The Brownsville North Board is also pleased to announce that we will be offering scholarships for our graduating seniors. Any senior is encouraged to apply and a selection committee will determine who the recipients will be. They will be announced at Closing Ceremonies. Please see Tony Rodriguez for additional information.

I want to wish good luck to teams attending upcoming tournaments. Brownsville North will be well represented and hopefully bring home positive results. Regardless of the results, every game played by our players serves to enhance their playing ability and to build up their confidence. It also creates a bonding environment within each team that will build lasting memories for the girls.

Finally, we are fast approaching the second half of our season, followed by All-stars. The All-star tournament will be at Laguna in Corpus and we hope to see a number of you there. A team representing the Junior, Senior and Teenager Division will be in attendance. The Peewee All-stars will represent the league in a tournament hosted here in Brownsville. Preparations are already underway for these tournaments. Any parent who thinks their child may be an All-star for the Laguna tournament is encouraged to book their rooms because a water park is opening up in the area at the same time that the All Star Tournament will be held. If the player is not able to attend, it is easier to cancel a room.

Respectfully,

Rey Rosales

<![CDATA[Ready for 2014!]]>Sun, 17 Nov 2013 00:54:31 GMThttp://bnlmk.com/presidents-page/ready-for-2014Dear BNLMK Community,
Well, we wrapped up our Fall Camp, and boy, did we enjoy it! Our kickball community participation was awesome! Now, the Board and I are hard at work wrapping up some housekeeping required by Corporation, and as a result, we will be able to close out last year and concentrate on the coming season. During the latter part of this month and beginning December we will begin our preparations. Some items to be addressed are repairs to the concession stand and maintenance of our facilities. We will be posting the dates that we will be addressing these issues, so that anyone who has a bit of time to spare can join us. Registration dates are projected to begin around the second weekend in January. Reminders will be mailed out to the address that is on file for your child. If for some reason you fail to receive the information, it will be posted on our website. The holidays are around the corner, and the Board and I would like to embrace this time to thank you for allowing us to be part of the Brownsville North Community. Anyone have any ideas for Christmas? Feel free to let us know.

Sincerely,
Rey Rosales
BNLMK Board President

<![CDATA[Thank You...]]>Fri, 18 Oct 2013 02:22:32 GMThttp://bnlmk.com/presidents-page/thank-youDear Brownsville North LMK Community,

We have completed our third week of the Fall Camp. The girls have been very receptive to the camp, and we have enjoyed working with them. There have been many positive comments and suggestions, which we will take into consideration, from our kickball community. When it was time for the camp’s inception, we thought we would be playing among the high grass and weeds growing on the fields. I am proud to say my Board came out and began the process of preparing the fields. The Brownsville’s Park and Recreation Department came to our rescue and provided excellent support. The fields needed a huge amount of maintenance, especially after all the rain Brownsville experienced. Parks and Recreation were instrumental in helping us prepare for the camp, and now the fields look great! Brownsville’s Health Department also merits recognition for visiting our fields and spraying for those pesky mosquitoes. They also inspected our concession stand, so that city health codes can be met. Now, we are looking forward to our End of Camp Celebration and then heading back to work to prepare for our 2014 season! Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Rey Rosales
Brownsville North LMK President
